The Ballarat East Neighbourhood House is proud to present the artwork of our Drawing Group, led by Jenette Callow.

This is their online gallery show for 2020/2021, title 'Jims Garden in Summer'.

The drawing group has been running since 2019. There are about 10 participants that regularly attend the group each week at Eureka Hall for about two hours a week to catch up, have a tea or coffee, draw, learn and see the works of others in the group. When COVID-19 restrictions began, the group was unable to meet for most of 2020. When restrictions eased and it was safe to meet again, the group met at one of the group members began to look for alternative places to meet. Jim, a member of the group, offered his home. It is a beautiful space with plenty of outdoor seating and wonderful views of his garden and beyond.

In late 2019, Ballarat East Neighbourhood House staff member Kelsie White met with the group and discussed the idea of an online exhibition of their work around a central theme. Jenette set the challenge to the group to create a postcard sized artwork inspired by Jims Garden in summer as a way to honour the space that the group had met during the summer and to capture the garden in full bloom. Below are the resulting postcard designs, and we are all so thrilled to see their beautiful work. 

The work was finished during the Summer break of 2020/2021. Original artwork was then photographed and uploaded to the Ballarat East Website and launched in 2021. Ballarat East Neighbourhood House hopes that this online, virtual exhibition will become an event that happens again with the group.
